A while back, my son got me a really nice Ridgid cordless drill. I enjoyed it for several years and then one of the batteries died. It wouldn't take a charge and had no voltage. I tossed it and bought a new one to the tune of $90 --OUCH!!!

Well, again one of my batteries died. I like the drill a lot, but I'm thinking if these expensive assed batteries keep dropping dead, I'm going shopping for a new drill.

So I started out with Google looking for any deals on batteries. I found several places selling CD's with a procedure for rejuvenating Ni-Cad batteries. I kept looking and found a website that just had the procedure posted on-line: Ni-Cad Battery fix

The procedure stated you could use a 12v power source if the battery was 9.6v or less. If your Ni-cad was more than 9.6v, you'd need a 24 volt source.

Now where around here do you think I might have two 12 volts batteries that I could hook together in series to get 24v??? :innocent

Well, I am happy to report the process worked like a charm. The drill battery is again functional, is fully charged and IT WORKS!!!!:D:sweet

So if any of y'all find yourselves in the same boat, give it a shot. It worked for me and was A LOT cheaper than a new battery.

That has been around for a while. The principle is to burn out the bridge that is shorting your battery by using a higher voltage than the batteries voltage. Once you shock the bridge out, the battery should be good as new. This does not always work. There is a battery rebuilder that I have used and they are about $35 per battery + shipping. I have a Black and decker Firestorm drill that i really like, but the battery life is starting to suck on them. I'll have to look in to it.
