Hey guys,

I have a 2000EX PSD with 110k on it and I am the 3rd owner. It had the SCT 1700 installed on it. It recently started acting up on me. From a cold start it runs fine until it gets up to operating temp, then it starts bogging and chugging like a pig. It seems like it's only running on 4 cylinders. It died on me once sitting at a light, but then restarted. I bought an OEM CPS sensor on Ebay, removed the SCT program, and disconnected the batteries for about an hour. I installed the new CPS and I took it for a ride and everything seemed fine until it warmed up, then same thing again. I was cruising at about quarter throttle,40mph and it starts bogging and chugging again. I gave it about 3/4 throttle and it dies on me. I threw it into neutral and it started up again, and I limped it home. It has really poor power, but enough to get it home. The only that's happened before this problem was I ran out of gas about 3 weeks before this started.

Is there anyway to Ohm out the CPS to see if it is good? My next purchase is going to be the SCT 1705 so I can check codes. My check engine light is on, and has been since I bought it, but the previous owner had a homeade intake with a hole drilled in it for the air intake sensor, I thought the check engine light was on for that. I guess not. I just got a factory air box from a friend, going to put that on tomorrow. Throw me some suggestions that I can look into. Thanks in advance guys!!! This site has helped me out a ton already.

As far as I know, there is no way to Hom out a CPS. It uses capacitance to measure the position. So the Ohm meter is useless.

That sounds like what mine did one time. It was making a funny noise and cutting out at about 40 - 45 MPH. When I took it to my mechanic he took put it on the computer and found out that one of the injector plugs had worked its way loose. I don't know if that's what yours is doing put just wanted to give you an idea. I hope you find out what it is.

Welcome to SDD!

Check your fuel filter. :wow Gas??

Need to find codes, otherwise it's a needle in a hay stack. could be bad injectors from running out of fuel, could be injector harness. We need codes.

You might try to find a shop with a good OBD scanner, they might check them for you quickly if they are nice.

By looking at the mileage perhaps the fuel pump is southbound also?

welcome
2nd STOP using ebay, there i said it i feel better now, I may get a flame but I HATE EBAY....:cussing:

powerstrokeshop.com is my first choice
3rd i agree with chp there, check the fuel pump and filters, filters first they are easier.\

air filter to while your under the hood.
and the of course you checked it already,.... the fuel pump shut off switch, you can drive all day at low speeds with the fuel pump in the OFF position, noisy and low power but it will run
i have done it many times by accident
passenger side foot well there is a hole put your finger in it and reset the switch.

Pull the oil filler cap off the valve cover and sniff for a burnt electrical odor, it is an easy test to check for a bad valve cover/injector harness.

If the previously listed things don't pan out, I'd change the oil. I've heard of unapproved oil causing these things to run like crap. If the oil is cold it's a bit thicker, as it warms it'll thin out some and maybe start to cause the engine to run poorly. It happens rarely, but does happen. Usually it's some kid who doesn't know any better working at the oil change place or dealership who puts the wrong oil in.
