Just bought my first powerstroke last year. It's a '03 supercab shortbed 4x4 wita 7.3 and the 6speed tranny. It's got 60,000 miles on it now. I was thinking of adding the 4" magnaflow turbo back exhaust, with the AFE stage 2 intake system and an edge evolution. I don't wanna have the drone sound from my exhaust. It's my daily driver and I do a lot of towing in the 14,000 range. I'm looking to add these mods and still get 500,000 miles outa this truck. My main goal is to outpull my buddies '06 duramax.
Any suggestions on these upgrades or others would be great. Thanks
Add some gauges, EGT, boost.
With you wanting to do some heavy towing, a "wicked wheel" compressor wheel for the turbo will eliminate any turbo surge
Another popular upgrade for minimal $$$ is to put in an intercooler from a 6.0 engine. It too will drop right in with the main "stumbling block" being you'll need longer connector boots for hooking the intercooler tubes to the intercooler. Reports of 100* reductions in EGT while towing are common.
And lastly for tuning, consider a chip or tuner from DP-Tuner. He pretty much has the reputation as being the guy to beat when it comes to tuning. He can provide tunes optimized for lightweight, medium or heavyweight towing, fuel economy, hi-performance, really hi-performance or OMG (Oh My God) performance.
As for freeby mods, do the Zoodad for cool, fresh air intake to the air intake.
And oh yea,
