Hi

I am posting a little early, in that I have not yet picked up my new 04 Excursion, in hopes of getting some information that will allow me to come up to speed ASAP.

I will be using my new truck to tow A 35 ft trailer and most interested in those additions or alterations that will help. Up until now I have been towing with a 97 Chevy 6.5 but now that it's crankshaft is in 3 pieces because 2 of the main cap bolts unscrewed I decided to return to Ford.May have Blown Engine - Diesel Place

What are the known shortcomings, what gages are recommended, oil and change interval, fuel additives.

Welcome to the site. Once you pick up your new rig fill out your sig so we know what you got. Since it is an 04 Ex than it would have a 6.0 liter psd. You are going to want boost/pyro/and trans temp gauges to start. I don't have an Ex so hopefully some guys will chime in and let you know all about your new pride and joy, a FORD. :welcome3 :ford

Hi HowieE and:welcome to Super Duty Diesel. If you would fill out your signature by hitting the USER CP Button (above) and let us know what you drive and where you live, it will make life for all here much easier. :D

Welcome aboard Howie! Great to have you in the community:thumbs

Congrats on the Excursion,it's the best SUV that was built with a Diesel engine and we'll get you dialed in.

First things first, install a rear sway bar kit(if not equipped) from Hellwig, install a set of Radius Rods to stabilize the rear axle from any movement, upgrade your stock shocks(if equipped) to Rancho 9000X shocks or Bilsteins,if your X is a 4x4 I highly recommend upgrading the front stock steering stabilizer(if equipped) to a Pro Comp ES2000 unit which will dampen the steering wheel shake when hitting those chuck holes and railroad crossings.

Fellow Excursion owners will also chime in with their ideas, suggestions as well for they do some big time towing:sweet
