Hi everyone,

My name is Steve and I am the proud owner of a 2000 F250 7.3 with no mods. Getting ready to hit the road in a fifth-wheel trailer with the wife and two dogs. My problem is my trailer is pushing 13,000+ lbs and I think I better look into a heavier truck. I have looked at some F350's with the 6.0 diesel but, have heard some nasty stuff about those engines. My 7.3 just keeps hummin' along and I need to get another reliable truck. I even saw an 2005 F550 that was in my price range but, it had the 6.0 in it. I also have had guys tell me the auto tranny is weak in the Fords. My F250 has the 6 speed Manual and I haven't had a bit of trouble with it. Let me know what you guys think. Thanks

Well come to SDD.com. Sounds like you have a good thing going. Are you having trouble with the truck or the engine? Some body will be along shortly that tows a fifth-wheel that will help out with things you can do.

yep your 7.3 is a good towing engine
i was skeeered of letting mine go to get a 350, but my 6.0 has towed excellently.

the tq shift tranny i feel makes a world of difference, wish it was around with the 7.3, i would have never traded

Hello Steve and also I want to say Welcome to SSD.com.
Every truck you buy can brake down at some time or another.
If you like your truck and it's in good shape I think I would start off with it.

Here is the Trailer Life Tow Rating for your 2000. 7.3
http://www.trailerlife.com/downloads/00towingguide.pdf

You didn't give enough info about what truck you have.
Good luck, and if you want a newer truck don't be afraid of the 6.0 or the TQ.tranny
I love the way mine pulls and drivers.

The torqushift tranny that's behind the 6.0 is excellent, and far superior to the auto's in a Dodge, and I think it's every bit as good as the Allison in the GM's

6.0

Welcome Steve
I have a 2007 6.0 duelly with the auto, I pull a 48ft enclosed car trailer at 18,000lb with no trouble but i do have some mods. If your looking at the 6.0 watch the early ones ( 04,05,06 ) for injectors & head gaskets. Feel free to post a thread with your questions and i'm sure everyone will help.
