New here. Im buying from my dads estate his 2002 Powerstroke crewcab. Anything I should expect? It is sitting at his ranch in LasVegas NV and I will be dirving it back to Oregon soon. It has 50k miles. My past three trucks have been Dodge Cummins. They were not bad trucks. Just no dealer support. I owned a 97 powerstroke 9 years ago with only trans problems. Have things improved? My last Dodge, 2004 35004x4 got 20 mpg on the highway. Will my Ford F3504x4 Crewcab duel get close to that?
Thanks in advance for any comments:thanks

I'm sorry to hear about your Dad. That's terrible. Expectations? Yeah, I'd expect you'll like it!! :sweet

Wow, that is low miles! That is very cool.

Like what? Did not have diesel mechanics, or something else? Maybe try a different dealer?

Unfortunately, that was their achilles heal/
Have things improved?
Oh yeah... Let's see...
1.) Tranny-wise, they went from the 4r100 to the e40D. it seems to be a better tranny, but I would still recommend some aftermarket beefing if you plan tot ow with it a whole bunch
2.) Engine-wise, they changed the fuel system a little, changed the turbo and downpipe, but it is more or less the same. oh, yeah, and they gave it more HP stock (I think your 02 is 275 HP)
3.) Truck-wise, it is night and day. Solid front axle (no weak I-beam), 4-wheel disc brakes, sway bars, beefy frame, sweet body, roomy interior. Second to none.
My last Dodge, 2004 35004x4 got 20 mpg on the highway. Will my Ford F3504x4 Crewcab duel get close to that?
Depends on how you drive it. You will be around 18 on the highway, just my guess.

Here is a picture of it and the trailer the last time I saw it. Im getting excited.
As for my Dodge, I have been dealing with Lithia Dodge. No real help there. everything seems to be normal in their eyes. When I call Chrysler regarding things, they say to try another dealer. Well, as most of the people here know, the next few dealers to the north are "Lithia" and the same to the west, east and south! They seem to have bought up all the dealers! This Ford will be a nice change, along with some real room in the back seat!
I rented a Excursion 3/4 4x4 V-10 2 months ago to attend his funeral and got right at 14 mpg between 70 and 80 mph! I was totally impressed!:thumbs

That's vice-versa;) A $50 shipped kit will handle up on most trans issues for most people.

But they also started installing PMR's (powder metal rods) since you last owned a powerstroke. They will generally take up 300-325 horsepower before failure, so as long as your not horsepower crazy youll be alright.

Yeah, what he said... I drive handshakers, and find myself woefully lacking in slushbox knowledge. I always get those two mixed up. The main reason I have trouble is because it was the other way around with Chevy. They went from a 700r4 (like a 4r100) to a 4l80E (like an e40D) This is the root of my trouble, I can never remember frod went from numbers and digits to a series and an r4.

Okay, I'm dumb as a box of rocks. My guess of 18 went away as soon as i realized you were talking about a dually. You'll be around 17 highway, and 15 around town. I am going to stop posting anything technical today, obviously, I've got a mental block thing going....
