I've never had them but I think it's like AOL where you HAVE to use their program.

at least with AOL you only have to run their software in order to connect. once online you can minimize their software and use any other browser. That does not mean, however, they wont/cant block it somehow.

Net Zero. Kinda funny. I know there sevice is still pretty cheap, but does anyone remember the commercials, not to long ago. "We will NEVER charge for internet." hmmmm NEVER really?

I use a high speed cable internet connection when at home. I got Netzero for the dial-up access when traveling for my old job. The only gripe I had with Netzero was the damn commercials you were forced to watch while waiting for the dial-up connection process to finish. I prefered to listen to the tones while connecting as to sooner detect a dial-up attempt gone bad.

I've kept my Netzero just for the e-mail address. Sometimes it's easier to change one's name than your e-mail address with all the friends, acquaintances or businesses you have to contact when your e-mail changes.

netzero has 3 basic plans

1. free w/ ads

2. cheap no ads standard speeds

3. acellerated dialup no ads their most expensive option (high speed)

I have the free dialup and get good connection speeds, you do have to use their software to connect for the free stuff which is time limited per month but usually covers me when I can't get a hotspot. You can configure the software in conjunction with your computer to allow for connection noises if you so desire, however many modem mfg's have stopped putting speakers on modems

Firefox works fine with all versions of their software.
