Okay - I want to add the 450C and a tank. Run the line up into the bed. Will run for tire inflation and a few air tools. Question is: what all do I need. Looking at the various sites I see pressure regs, switches, ports, etc etc. I have seen some say to mount the thing in a box?

It's going to go under the truck on the rail. I want the outlet, on/off switch and pressure gauge in the bed.

Anybody help me out on what I need to order? Don't want to get the thing and then find I need to order another part or two.

Thanks,

Ron

I think some guys use a plastic marine battery box to mount it in. Be sure to get a Viair pressure switch. For Viair to honor there warranty they want proof that a Viair pressure switch was purchased with the Viair compressor. For tire inflation you don't need a regulator but some air tools might not like 145psi so you might get one. The only ports on the air tank you will need is in, out and drain. All those ports they talk about are for trick air suspensions. Get a tank with as few of ports as you can find so you don't have to plug a bunch of them.

My tank has 8 1/2" ports. I used all but 2 I think. 1 for the viar pressure switch, 1 for my tank pressure sending unit for the gauge, one for airhorns, one for the airbags, and for the quick disconnect for filling tires, and one for FILL.

I havent found a "drain" I like, but I still have the "bottom" port for that.

The viair 450c is "all weather rated" since it is a sealed unit. However most guys dont like to expose them anywayz and put them inside an ammo can or plastic battery box.

Okay - I see this KIT
And it looks like it has the gauge, pressure switch and stuff I need. So, that kit, the compressor, tank and then get my plumbing local should do it huh.

Some of these people are nuts on the price of the 450C - Have found it for under $200 and one site for $379

I think I paid 200-ish for my 550c. Twice the compressor for the same price! Ebay, but I think the guy that posted it screwed up. oh well, I wont. Shipped direct from viair.

You can get a much better deal on a full setup(compressor, tank, switch, ext..)on ebay.

FWIW

This is what I did for my Airhorn Setup:

As far as the horns, the system was pieced together;

The actual Hadleys came off a Freightliner at a wrecking yard. Got them for $50 for the set.

The 550C came from this guy on Ebay. But you can get a similiar price from suicidedoors.com (also a good deal off of them for a 450C)

The Viair Hookup Kit came from Central4wd.com

5 gallon air tank and 30 amp relay came from suicidedoors.com

The Horton Solenioids came from a local Kenworth dealer.

And, the rest of the fittings, 3/8" hose, tubing, wiring, etc., came from Home Depot.

I put the 550C in my Truck Box, (it's well protected). The horns sound exactly like they did on the Semi Truck. I always get grins when I lay on them. (Or I get the, "what the hell was that look" from the person who just pulled in front of me )

(Plus the look on my Ford Service Manager's face when I hit the horn button is always priceless ).

All together it was about $580.00, but I know you could piece together a less expensive set up. It was actually a lot of fun to install, and with the capacity of the 550C and air tank, I have run my air nailers off my truck. It's very nice in areas where plugging in my porter cable is difficult.

FWIW Component Products had some complete Hadley Kits (compressor, horns, etc.).

I'm really glad I finally got this mod finished. I have wanted to do it since we got Rachel's Excursion in 2001, (Just figured she would not let me do it to hers).

Have fun, any other questions, just yell.

I don't do Ebay - every since they cancelled my transactions (buying 7 cell phones) and turned me over to Wells Fargo for fraud investigation - the whole Ebay scene can go piss up a rope.

Anyway - getting everything from two sources - the 450C, hook-up kit, tank, airdown kit, and a handful of disconnects - less than $350 - I can live with that.

Thanks -

That's where I found the best price on the 450C - they are out of stock on the 550C (almost $100 more) - includes shipping.

I already have an inverter installed - which pisses other contractors off when I just drop the tailgate and plug in :D - this should really send them over the edge :thumbs

Of course if I had the bucks laying around to hook up the hydraulics to the PTO - I'd have all the bases covered :p Pull up to a job and hook up the hydraulic concrete chainsaw to the truck - that'd be the s_ _ t -
