This is an old Trenton Rifle that belonged to my Great Grandfather. My Dad has had it as long as I can remember. It is not in working condition and is missing some parts.

My Dad wants to get rid of it and I told him I would try to get some help as to what it might be worth.

Best I can tell, it is from the late 1800's. Any help would be appreciated.

bama-

that is a precussion cap gun. the nipple and the hollowed out hammer.

might be from the mid 1800's. is the antiques roadshow coming close anytime soon?

it think that you should keep it as part of your family history.

This rifle is in pieces. Bungie cords are keeping the parts together at this point.

It's missing the trigger and who knows what else.

I know nothing about it's history other than that my Paw-Paw Holsonback killed his first rabbit with it or something like that.

My Dad did say that his niece's husband fired it along time ago and it sent him flying backwards.

Keep it Stephen, I know that you arent much into hunting or firearms but that is more than just a rifle. Take it to a local smith and see what he knows about it.

I'd bet a Antique Firearms appraiser could track it's history. They have all kinds of ways to identify markings, the scrimshaw, and so on. Might be worth looking into Bama.

Yer call though..

I still vote: Keep It.

If you are just going to throw it away throw it up here, I would love to put it over my fire place. Restored of course.
