Dad filled up his 7.3 with unleaded. What to do now!! He is used to driving his company truck and fillin it with that crap. When he went to fill up his truck he messed up. Then he drove exaxtly 1/16 of a mile before he noticed it then he shut her down. He was only topping it off so there is probably about 10 gallons of the unleaded in there. Truck ran normally he only shut it down when he realized what he had done. Heading over there now what should we do???

If I faced the situation I'd have to drop the tank/s,drain the fuel filter bowl and flush the pump & lines with Diesel.

You could siphon/drain all the fuel out of the tank completely then refill with fresh Diesel or Bio Diesel blend and add about a 16 ounce bottle of Power Service Diesel Kleen or Lucas Fuel treatment to lubricate the injectors.
Any damage to the injectors will be known pretty quick as there's no lubricating properties in Gasoline.

Buy some 5 gallon gas cans, remove the outlet from the fuel pump, attach a hose, pump into cans. I don't think the blend will hurt the pump. Once the tank is empty enough drop the tank and get the rest out however you can.

Use compressed air on the lines, just make sure the hoses are off the pumps, filter is removed and drain valve is open.

As far as the fuel rails in the heads is concerned those are going to be tough, only thing I can think of is to remove the test port plugs and key on a couple of times once you have fresh fuel back in the tank. It will be messy and may not be that necessary, he's already driven it some.

Fortunately I haven't faced this problem but you'd have to fill up 5 gallon fuel jugs then contact your local contact city environmental services dept on where to dispose of old engine fuel(gas, diesel)

If you choose to flush you'll need one of those $10 hand pumps that's fuel compatible then jerry rig it to the fuel line opening at the FPR which will flush down to the fuel pump then from the pump inlet to the tank if you haven't already drained the tank.

Hope others will chime in with their ideas-popcorn

Antonio what you think the cost would be for the Dealer/truck service shop to perform the drain/flush?

I forgot about compressed air:doh:

If anyone has any ideas on what to do with the fuel let me know I will check back in when I get there. I do not think any of it has hit the motor and it was not all unleaded he was just topping off. I will probably do what you said as soon as I figure out what to do with the fuel. Thanks

You don't have to drop your tank. Stick a syphon hose in the tank and drain into some jerry cans ( 5 should just about do). After that open up the drain in the fuel bowl and cycle the pump a few times. Then fill the truck up to top with DIESEL FUEL and cycle the pump a few more times making sure you got all the gas/diesel mixture out of the lines and the fuel bowl. After that start her up and run it as usual. The injector lines should be rid of all if any diesel/gas mixture that is in the lines. A few gallons of gas/diesel mixture in the diesel fuel with not make a difference as you are filling it with straight diesel. My old man has had this happen a few times at full serve stations so I have done this before. If you don't feel safe just add a little fuel additive with lubrication or as CHPmustang said top the truck off after with a bio-diesel blend (it has better lubricating qualities.;) ;)

When I had to get my watery fuel out I couldn't get a siphon pump hose down my fill hose. Really ticked me off too!

Personally I wouldn't want any gas in my fuel with ~$300 injectors these engines have.

As far as the dealer....one left arm and one right leg prolly!:roflmao

syphon as much as you can out of the tank.open the water drain on the fuel filter and drain the cannister.remove the filter.fill the tank with fresh diesel and a full 16Oz of powerservice.turn key on for a few minutes to run the gas out of the lines and get the diesel mix into them.close filter drain fill canister halfway with transmission fluid or power service.put a new filter in it and crank the hell out of till it fires up.let it idle DO NOT REV IT!!!!!!!itll smoke like all hell and you may even hear some funny squeeking noises for a few minutes.its gonna skip and run like **** for about 10 minutes or so and then it should clear up.once it is running normal take it out for a ride but drive it easy.try to burn off around 1/4 tank and go refill it.

this is how i do it.a buddy mine that has a tow company with a few stupid drivers that keep filling is 99 wrecker with gas.so far 3 times and the truck is still running perfect.dont bother me its a quick 150.00 in my pocket everytime i have to do it.
