Need advice???

Been getting told by a Ford Diesel mechanic to stay away from the 6.0 L completely. He says all he does all day long is repair warped heads and change head gaskets. Please help, not to many 7.3 L's out there so I am wondering if this is the right approach.

I lifted my heads running 36lbs of boost at 4200 rpms pulling 26k. What do you expect? I knew it was a matter of time because of the way it was being ran. Put ARP studs in and haven't had an issue. The heads could of used 2 to 4 more bolts in them, but with the ARPs they hold together fine.

The 6.0 is a good engine it just got a bad rap because of the first few that came out and the issues they had. HPOP in the 05s and up is more what I would worry about.

Tow with mine daily and she hasn't failed me yet.

Ford did the repairs and installed the ARP studs. Truck never stopped running, just noticed it wasn't running the way it should and took it in. First mechanic said it was fine, but I knew it wasn't, so drove 600miles and had a different Ford mechanic look at it. 3 days later she had been tore down and put back together and I was on the road again.

The 6.0 are not a bad engine they do get a bad rap from the 03-04 year models that were problem childs. Not even all of them were bad but plenty of them were lemons. If you got a chance to buy a late build 04 I say go for it. The late build started 9-30-03 and later. The main problem with the newer 6.0 is lack of maintenance by the customer and by people buying them to drive to church on Sunday these trucks were built to be ran, the guys that use em and keep up their maintenance never have problems.

Your right but if you had a good 6.0 tech check it out they would know what to look for. IF you know one they could probably steer you in the right direction.

get one that is under warranty and drive the piss out of it till the HG go or you stretch the studs -- then buy some ARP's and have Ford do the work under warranty..

I'd buy the right 6.0 in a heartbeat -- lots of great running 6.0's and they run very well even stock!

Thanks buddy, what was the cost of the rebuild if you don't mind my asking?

$74.23 is what it cost me. Other than the $500 to get the ARP studs shipped in. Ford did all the work under warranty. If you guys are ever near Omaha, NE and need work done just let me know. Have a great mechanic in the area.

no problems w/ my 04, 2 recalls/tsb's... I love mine ! 70k miles

i run the piss outta it (no tuner, or air cleaner...just mbrp turbo
back w/ cat delete)...every time i get in it.

i piled on the miles when new, and it sits for a week or two at a
time now...no real problems (or costly repairs) in 70k miles !

Id buy another 6.0 (better mpg) before id buy the more complex
6.4 !

da-heat is right in my opinion as well. everywhere you go now you see people who you know have no use for a 3/4 1 ton diesel but they use is as a grocery hauler and crap like that just cause they have the money to drive em. sry kinda pisses me off when the people that need em can barely afford to have one cuz all the city people who a few yrs back wouldnt be caught dead in a diesel want one for thier status. but lke heat and bush said if you drive em and use them as intended they work go figure. i pull trailers all the time and drive all over the country for work running the truck at 80mph for 12 - 14 hrs a day and have had zero problems. but i also keep the maintenance up on it as well and know its done right cuz i did it
