I just wanted to put out a few words for any of those living in the flood affected areas along the ND/MN border, aka Red River.

I am praying & hoping the river crests below the predicted crest levels. I hope the sandbagging and levees are sufficient to protect everybody's homes.

We lived in Grand Forks for 4 years many years before the infamous floods that occured about a dozen years ago. We went back for a wedding about 4 years after those floods and it still looked like a war zone downtown. I pray there isn't a repeat of the 97 floods. That was supposedly a 100 year flood.

This is what the 1997 Grand Forks Floods & Downtown Fires looked like.

The red lake river that runs by my farm is already at the highest level on record.(ever!) it is supposed to crest sometime tonight, hopefully. we have 20000 bushels of soybeans 8" from getting wet, and we just may luck out on this one. Right now I am in Grand forks watching the river lick the underside of the bridge. Grand forks is very well prepared for this flood, since it's floodwall was built after the 1997 flood, however the fargo area desperately needs help sandbagging, either physically or in your prayers. This is gonna be a bad one! At least there is no ice storm to take out the area's power this time.

95 stroker, hope everyone stays dry... starting over once is tough, but twice in ten years is almost impossible.

YES, saw that impending ND, SD and MN flooding on GMA this AM. Sure hope they can squeak by this time. I can't imagine being Wiped Out like the 97 floods, again. It was good to see communities pulling together in the Sand Bagging efforts though ;tu

I was reminded of the devastation we saw along the Gulf Coast part of our Road Trip.. that [Still] remains, after Katrina.. Lots of Front door steps and Foundations.. :(

Well my sister and neighbors filled 16000 sandbags and their little community named Oxbow (appropriate name eh?)should be protected to 42 feet. I think the Red crested at 39.7 feet in Fargo in 97.

Heres a video from Yahoo News, at about the 2:08 minute mark you see a grey home with a Chevy Tahoe parked in the driveway, thats my sisters house and again at about the 2:25 mark you see an air boat whiz by her house again. Sounds like the water may crest higher than expected.

Well the red lake river has crested for now, near my farm in thief river falls. The snow and cold weather has somewhat stopped the run-off from fields, but I am sure the water will come up again once it warms up. Fargo has an almost impossible task ahead if they want to stay dry, and by the end of the weekend, all of that water will be in grand forks. Thank god grand forks had the foresight to build a 58' dike system after '97. '97 was 54.4' and it is supposed to be higher than that this year. if anyone wants to track the river levels, here is a link to the hydrology site for the region-Advanced Hydrologic Prediction Service: Eastern North Dakota/Grand Forks click on the little dots to see the level at that location.
