Ok, on this site http://pages.prodigy.net/stevebaz/_import/pages.prodigy.net/stevebaz/index3.html

I see a great list of motor oils. I want to do my own oil changes and pretty much all of my regular service. I do not plan on going synthetic, but use regular oil and put that additive in that he talks about at 3,000 miles to extend changes to every 5,000 miles. I'll do it every 3,000 when hauling or going offroading a lot.

So here is my question. I'd like to get a 30 or 55 gallon barrel of oil delivered and use it, to save money. However, at 20K a year, a 55 gallon barrel would be used up in 3 years. Will the oil be good that long? I would have a hand pump on it, and put the vent bung back in when not pumping, so it wouldn't be exposed to much air.

And my other question. On the above site, he talks about CAT extended life coolant. $6 a gal, never needs additives, good for 300K (unfortunately longer probably than the engine will last). Sounds like the holy grail of coolant to me. Is it good? I'd prefer not to have to do the test strip, add stuff, test again, hope its not cavitating, etc.

Thanks.

the oil itself wont go bad, BUT
the mositure in the air will attack the additives as it perculates down through the oil as it sits for long periods with cold and heat cycles each day.
and i would bet within 6 months unless you hermetically seal the container, you will have quite a bit of water on the bottom of the oil drum, which in turn may rust through and cause leakage, or the very least leave you with oil that needs to be filtered to remove any water, palmetto bugs etc.

i would save the money and buy as needed in smaller quantities

even cat, cummins and the oehters specify ALL oil coming from drums and some say even gallon jugs must be FILTERED prior to its introdcution into the crankcase and the oil filter is usually to be empty so all oil will be filtered upon start up.

The CAT coolant is not recommended for use in the PSD by Ford. It is not supposed to be compatible with the brass components (ie, injector cups) in our engines system, now with that said.... alot of people use the CAT coolant with no problems. You might also look into EVANS coolant. It is compatible and is a one time and go for ever coolant too.

On the oil, I wouldnt purchase 55 gal a ta time unless you can use it in a single season.
