Depends on the child.... really....
and where you live...
in the big cities the child protective services would have you arrested for that or a gun....
but heck I had a gun when I was 5 :)

decades ago when I used to run motorcross I remeber young as 5 or so then, don't know about now...

I didn't get a 2 wheeler, but I did get my son a 4 wheeler when he was 4, but it had a kill switch with a long cord that I could pull at anytime....

had a few oops, but with the helmet and long pants, etc... it was ok...
it had a limiter where he could only go I think 15 mph until I released it then it would go 25 ?????
LONG time ago....

i was thinking about forcing the four wheeler , she is pretty small at 4,
and the smallest two wheeler i found weighs 104 lbs, thats a whole lot more than she weighs
and four wheelers are 200 lbs or more.
I could get an electronic shut down or limit switch, thats an idea.
thanks
I used to duck hunt when i was very young as well the old 410 shotgun, single shot pull back the firing pin. them were the days

Well let's see when i was 3 I had a power wheels cop motorcycle does that count :D

In all honesty it depends on how good her balance is.... Is she comfortable on a pedal powered bike? Does she ride it relatively fast? Does she take risks when riding?

I would say that power toys w/ kids that small is an accident waiting to happen especially when she starts to play on it w/o supervision.

Actually she has excellent balance and i am sure she will master it fast , provided her mom stays out of the way, I think she will try to run her over.
I found a honda crf 50 tha seems to be the right height and weight.
plus a 3 speed auto shift/clutch.

I would rather teach her how to hunt and fish, I geuss papa is going to have to get a motorcycle to now

IMHO a motorcycle is an excellent form of recreation for a child and I dont think 4 or 5 is too young. I garuntee children who learn to drive motorcycles will be MUCH better automobile drivers at the age of 16 than those that didnt learn to drive a motorcycle.

Of course, as a grandfather it is you duty to question your son's sanity and make sure he has your grand daughter outfitted with all the proper saftey gear.

the CRF 150F is WAY too big for a four year old unless she is much bigger than average. Start her out on a PW 50. Even if it is a little undersized, she will enjoy it more and not be scared of it. The 150 is too much bike. If she can even reach the footpegs, I'll bet she won't be able to comfortably hold the bike up with her feet on teh ground, and she most definately won't be able to pick it up. The 150 is a mid-size bike, just shy of a full-size MX machine. Too big for a 4-year old. You can find a used Pee-wee 50 (yamaha) for next to nothing, and it will be a good starter bike to make sure she likes it before you buy the more expensive 150 once she is actually big enough to handle it.

A CRF 150 is what I would buy for my wife if she wanted a dirtbike, not for a 4-year old.

Not only that, but the CRF requires her to be able to use a clutch and shift gears, where the PW is auto-clutch shifting. This is just too much for a four year old to handle...

ON EDIT!!! That said, i now realize that the 1 in 150 is acutally an F, and was a typo. The CRF50 is perfect for a four year old. It is comparable to the PW50 I was talking about. It won't go fast enough for her to really hurt herself, and is so small that she will be able to handle it. This is NOT an unsafe sport if she has the proper supervision and safety gear. That 50 just won't go fast enough for her to get hurt.... It is no more dangerous than riding a bicycle, (or even better, considering that usually, riding the motorcycle will be under more controlled curcumstances and more supervision than the bicycle)...
