To all of you who sent me PMs regarding the loss of my father, I cannot begin to thank you enough. While he had been in poor health, his sudden turn for the worse and his death were unexpected. I know that if anything could have been done to save him and keep a good quality of life, the fine folks at University of Alabama-Birmingham Medical Center could have done it. While they can do anything up to and including heart transplants there, they also have physicians and staff who know when it is time to let things go.
My father spent his last day in the Palliative Care Center there. It was less of a hospital room and more of a hotel suite. They made sure that he was comfortable and experienced no pain in passing, but they also took very good care of those of us who were there in his final hours. My father had a fear of dying alone in a hospital ICU. There at UABMC he was in comfort with family around him. For that I am also grateful.
I received the RoosterDiesel shirts in the mail on Saturday, that was also a day brightener. I'll get them signed and on the way in the next few days.
There's still the matter of my dad's memorial service, my sisters and I agreed it would be held near our old home of Orlando, so that more of my dad's friends could attend. So that is where I will be on Saturday.
Thanks again for all of your concern and condolences. It's great to be a member of a forum like this.
Regards,
Richard
