I have a 97 Ford Powerstroke with a 5 speed transmission and now it pops out of reverse when i engage it. Is there any adjustment for this or is the transmission gone?

I have found that over the years the bearings start to go and that is one of the symptoms. You need a rebuild.

Mine has been doing that :thumbs for 40k . I have found that if you engage 4th gear prior to Reverse it helps. ALSO make sure the plastic bushing on the clutch rod is not worn out --I know how frustrating it can be. I tow quite a bit and the ZF is still holding up OK. If you do a search:sorry you should be able to find out more on the plastic thingie.

mine used to do that a lot so i took it and got new shift forks and seals thrown in it and it's been working great ever since then. i would definitely say that you need shift forks. if you can afford it, then it wouldn't hurt to go ahead and rebuild the tranny.
