I have a 2000 PSD 4WD. I like to lock the manual hubs once every few weeks to keep them working. Today I went to lock one of them and it was pretty difficult to lock and unlock. I've seen on older trucks that the hub can be taken apart and greased. I plan on trying to take it apart, clean it, and repack it with grease. Is it possible to take the hubs off of mine and repack them with grease or is it not possible on these type of hubs? Any advice on this would greatly be appreciated.

you should not pack the hub with grease there should be a light coating of grease on the moving surfaces but far from packed. there should be plenty of space for air to allow the mechanism to actuate.

if you really are hell-bent on lubricating them, fill them with ATF, soak overnight, and then drain before reinstalling

Does anyone know a common reason that the hubs get difficult to engage? Is there a chance that it is trying to rust?

I pulled off my driver's side hub and cleaned it out. I sprayed some graphite spray lube down in it and it started moving extremely easy. I then put a thin layer off grease on the splines and reinstalled it. Now it's been about three weeks and it is hard to turn again. I don't have the money to replace the front hubs and I really don't need them that much. Should I soak them in ATF like JLDickmon suggested?
