My brother from the 56th is looking for a website or two of resources to purchase a pre-owned SIG .40 handgun.

Any gun owners be able to help with some links?

Thanks!

gunbroker.com.........a high volume of firearms but have to be real careful with prices. Use the blue book of gun values to get the current value. Some people ask higher than book on gunbroker. You can do ok there you just have to watch the book values....

auctionarms.com.......not nearly the volume as gunbroker but worth a look as well.

I also think the Shotgun News is worth lookin at once in a while...

Good Luck and hope this helps!

Out of curiosity why is he going with a Sig in .40?

1. Is he set on the brand Sig?
2. Is he set on a 40 cal?
3. Is he looking for a metal or polymer frame?
4. Is it for business or pleasure or both?

If he is in the market for a polymer framed gun avoid the sig 250. The triggers are garbage. Try a glock or springfield xd-40(tactical) instead.

The 229 is the compact steel frame and the 226 is the full size steel frame.

Thanks for the replies,I've copied it to him.

I have shot a sig pistol all my life besides the beretta 9 for the military and like the grip of the sig and the balance of the weapon. I can rip a clip and have a good shot group.
2. Is he set on a 40 cal?
not set on a .40 but like the power of it.
3. Is he looking for a metal or polymer frame?
either or. I'm always up for good suggestions
4. Is it for business or pleasure or both? for pleasure.
I would feel safe if I had a weapon for the significant other while im in iraq. The neighborhood is going to dumps and don't need to worry about her being somewhat safe while im in Iraq...... My pug is a good alarm but really crappy at the attacking part.

If he's looking for something for his wife to shoot while he's away I would strongly recomend the sig 226(Full size metal frame). The .40 has pretty good knockdown power and is pretty controllable for a novice shooter. The full size metal frame is also going to help tame some of the recoil.

If she is pretty comfortable around firearms or has a good amount of experience shooting than you could get away with a polymer framed firearm.
If you are in the market for a polymer framed gun than go with a glock, springfield xd, or hk usp(my choice).

I would take her to a local range and rent:
sig 226(compact 40) and 229(full 40)
a glock 22(full sized 40)
a hk usp(full sized 40)

Whichever one she feels more comfortable with would be your best bet. Chances are if she is uncomfortable shooting it at the range she will probably be reluctant to use it in an emergency.

I also worked at a gun shop for a number of years....I had to quit because I spent WAY TOO MUCH $$$$$ there!!!

Sorry to ramble but firearms are my primary hobby and I am always interested in helping someone out when I can.....
