long time to start

ok so i went to look at a 2001 f250. has 121k on it. the guy at the ford dealer said it was sitting there for 2 weeks. heated up the glow plugs and tried to start it. took a little longer than usual to start and he said cause it was sitting. went for a test ride and parked it when we got back. talked inside for about 20mins and he went out to move it later on when i was still there and it took just as long to start. any quick thoughts wat it could be or how serious something like this is and if i should even worry about it?

i think if it was the glow plugs or the relay it would have only been hard to start the first time.20 mins after you drove it the gpr or plugs arent a factor anymore cause its warmed up and it has no need for them.someone correct me if im wrong.

These trucks will start quite some time after they have been left sitting without waiting for the glow plugs. A long time to start could be a number of things from weak oil and hp oil pumps to bad or weak injectors. These trucks do need to crank over a bit longer tho due to the fact the injectors run off of oil pressure. How long was it taking to fire up?

Could be the Batteries arent in the best condition. When it was turning over was it turning good and fast ? Fuel filter dirty ?

Ask the dealer to plug it in for a couple hours.. Then try it.

Cold Soaking can have an effect on Diesels. CAN have.

ok so that truck was in 2 accidents 10 days apart so i ran away from that...

if you refer to my other thread "new to a 7.3" it tells you about the truck i did end up buying. but thanks for all the helpful info... ill probably need it in the future..
