I am currently spending about $100 a month on songs and audiobooks in the iTunes store. Spending 80 hours a week on the road without any radio stations is a bit boring without some sort of entertainment. My niece just told me about a site called LimeWire.com where you can get songs for free. Is this legal and is it safe? I don't want Virus or spyware. The Site says it is safe but of course they would. Anyone know anything about this?

My father-in-law tried LimeWire and he said that it is FILTHY with viruses. In fact, even though he wiped everything he could find connected with LimeWire off his hard drive, his PC has not been right since.

If you want limewire, get yourself a MAC. Limewire, as stated earlier, is so full of viruses that it's not even funny. As a matter of fact, I have my Girlfriend's daughter's laptop with me to performa a full format and windblows reinstall on it because of limewire.

Kids just dont listen nowadays. I told her, "Don't get limewire, you'll be sorry". But what do I know.

I spend a good portion of my computer maintenance chores at the house dealing with "free" music download sites. The kids want the music, but when I tell them their iTunes downloads are contingent on work around the house, they try Limewire and other download sites. The kids have Windows machines. I hate them. The wife and I have Macs, (I have three) and we download from iTunes. At less than a buck a song, even cheaper if you download an album, I have no problems with viruses and I know that the artist is getting some cash for his or her efforts, unlike those "free" sites that rip the artists off.

legal- well not really, but enforcement is an other thing. kinda like fireworks in wisconsin. legal to buy and possess but not to set off.

bittorent is the way to go. its almost untrackable by prying eyes, or so i am told. use a real bittorent client like azureus. its free open source (free and in beer).
get it here http://azureus.sourceforge.net/

http://thepiratebay.org is where many folks like browseing. the swedes do not have copyright laws like we do here so in sweden it is not illegal to publish links to places that in their country might be illegally hosting copyrighted material. a good read is their legal threat letters department.

you might like to listen to 'this american life' too. since they dropped audible, their shows are now free. http://thislife.org/

happy listening.
