lights not working

ever since i installed my guages in my 2001 7.3 i have no guage cluster light or tail lights?? i tapped 5 wires into the thick black wire with green tracer.i dont know which fuse this is but maybe its too much...any one got a clue?

Yes you over loaded the circuit. The lack of Dash Lights tells you that your tail lights are out. I don't have a manual for your truck so I can not tell you what that fuse is, sorry.

find an empty fuse tap that's switched hot in run.. plug the guage lights in there...

First do you have a voltage meter?

If you do follow these steps:

Remove the gauge lighting from the circuit you tapped them into.

Replace the fuse with the SAME SIZE fuse. Never increase the fuse size. Its sized to protect the wire from overheating and burning down tour truck.

Pull the dash forward at the headlight switch. Using a meter find the dimmer wire on the back of the headlight switch for the instrument lights. You can find it by adjusting the dimmer and seeing a change in voltage.

Tap this wire and you will be fine, mine has been for 6 years now with three gauges.

This will also let you dim the gauge lights with the dash lights.

i would think that might not cause the fuse not to trip if the same problem occurs.

kinda like having your microwave on a 50 amp breaker instead of a 20 amp. the wires might get hot and then the fuse wouldn't trip to protect itself.
