i have a 97 p/s. the large plugs in the head are leaking oil. I changed the right front. The left rear is a different story. Does anyone know any tricks for getting that one out. It is tempting to hole saw a access hole in the floorboard.

ive heard a flex head 1/2" drive ratchet works for them.but the deallers actually do use a hole saw on the firewalls to get at them especially on the newer trucks with the 6.0

Now if I took my truck in for service and they sawed a hole in the firewall I'd be one pissed individual.

I tried the flexhead ratchet...Now the square hole is kinda mashed over. hard to believe a dealer would hole saw a access.I was looking at a later model one today (2001) It looks way harder to get to.

thats why they cut a hole in the fire wall.they mainly do it to the 99-up superduties but the mechanic says he has done it to the 94-97 trucks also

Get a piece of key stock that size that will fit tight in the head of the plug and cut a short section like 3/4 of an inch and stick in the head of the plug and use an end wrench on the piece of the key stock sticking out of the head of the plug to remove and install it.

Thanks I'll try that when the truck gets back in the shop
