UGH! Leaky intercooler to turbo pipe boots. I just had them off 2-3 weeks ago to get the y-pipe off to drill and tap for the boost gauge. now they are all nasty. I >thought< i cleaned the pipes and boots good in simple green.

Getting them off was tough. they were STUCK onto the pipes and y-pipe flanges.

Now they are slippy slippy. What did I do wrong?

Also, any tips on PROPERLY removing and reinstalling the clamps? It's a cuss-fest getting them off.

edit: i talked to a buddy of mine in the north woods (who is a unfortunately chevy 6.5td guy). his advice was to use rtv to 'glue' them back on. the kind of rtv that is used for valve cover gaskets that does not get hard. seems that this is common practice in the bow-tie club. comments? seems kinda kludgy...

I wouldnt RTV them. Have you done the CCV Mod yet? It helps immensely with keeping oil out of the intercooler. Also look into the blue "hump" hoses available at some of our vendors.

I soaked mine in 50/50 SG and H20. Sprayed the inside with SG and worked the inside with my thumbs, rinsed and repeated a couple times, dried, checked and repeated until my thumbs would squeak when rubbing the insides.

Then hairsprayed the insides before reinstallation.:sweet No probs since.
