Got up this morning and saw a puddle on the driveway...........crap!!!

Dribbling all over the frame rail so I figured it was a topside leak...........looked and found nothing.

Thought about it a little bit and noticed it was in the vicinity of the fuel pump so I crawled under and found this cracked hose. I R&R'd it.

I have been concerned about my secondary fuel filter being pluged so I took a look at it while I was under there. It was only an R60 instead of the R90 I usually use.

Found it full of water and bubbling like a jacuzzi inside. It did not do this when I installed it.

I also check all up stream fittings and hoses and found no leaks so I decided to pull it off 3k miles early.

This is what I found after draining it. A little bio diesel residue in the bowl and quite a bit in the water that drained from the bowl. It was not the usual algie that I normally see.

Also found the top oring swelled and displaced. Could have been from over tightening or from the bio diesel.

I reinstalled a new R90 element and all the bubbles went away.

I am trying to figure out what happened.

1) Was the filter was so restricted that the vacuum was pulling air past the oring(I have seen air in the fuel bowl but never like this).

2) Did the biodiesel compromise the orings

3) Did I damaged the oring by over tightening.

T-Bar, looks like you started the day off with lots of fun. Glad it wasn't to bad and you got it all back together. A little leak can sure mess up your plans for the day. At least you were at home when you found the leak.

Just strange that both these problems happened at once. I guess it could be coincidence.

What was the hose rated at? What are the materials used in hose? Running B99?

I would say yes BD helped degrade your hose. The seal on the filter are nitrile and hold up decently to BD but do swell over time. With the residue in the bowl, yes I believe you were at max restriction and that allowed it to suck past the seal. I have left my shutoff valve closed once after filter service on my 900fh and I saw bubbles coming from the seal on the drain cock.
