Keyless entry range

I have always been a bit irritated by the short range of my truck's remote compared to other vehicles. I have to be within about 40' or less, and it does seem to favor the driver side. Been this way for 2.5+ years since I bought it used...

Any thoughts?
Is there a chance that I have a remote receiver buried under a block of aluminum shielding or is this normal...?

i could aways get 100 yards easy either side
i would check battery status on the hand held or maybe it got damaged
