We all know that K&N air filters let a little too much dirt through in many applications but I was wondering how there oil filters are. I have a dozen Motorcraft oil filters for my PSD so I won't be buying any of them for the next 12 years but it is time to change the oil in my 4-wheelers. I found that I can save a few bucks using the K&N oil filter over a OEM Honda filter. How do they compare to OEM?

Ive used the KN on my 95 before, cant really comment on if it was better, worse or comparable to the Motorcraft filter. I needed to change oil, the Motorcraft slot was empty but the KN was in stock so thats what went on. My Blackstone results didnt scream that anything was awry so........

Given the choice between the Motorcraft and KN, I would lean to the Motorcraft for sure.... cant speak at all for the Honda filter.

The filters that I've found work very good are the mobil1 filters. Results are purely observational and no Used oil analysis was performed.

In my '90 ranger I always ran mobil1 synthetic (shut up the valve tap in the 2.9) When I ran it with mobil1 filters I could go 5-7k and still see the dipstick through the oil and see through the stream as it was draining (felt bad for changing oil so quickly) when I ran any other filter motorcraft, fram, K&N the oil was never that clean.

I don't know what it was about that combo but it had the engine purring nicely when the truck was totaled with 217k on the ticker

Do they make them for Honda ATV's?

Have no clue and can't seem to find a chart that would indicate the critical dimensions to find a cross reference. Best I can suggest is to call them

1-800-882-0890 for assistance. Hours are Monday to Friday,
7 am to 7 pm (Central Standard Time), and on Saturdays from 7 am to 5 pm (CST).

I'm running one on my Polaris and its been fine. You got a screen on there, too, or just a filter?

No screen that I can recall but it has been a year since I have changed them. No screen in the instructions.
Install a New Engine Oil Filter:

3. Remove the oil filter bolt and oil filter cover. Let the remaining oil drain out.

4. Remove the oil filter from the cover.

5. Remove the spring and washer. Do not discard the washer with the old oil filter.

6. Discard the oil filter.

7. Check that the O-rings are in good condition and then insert a new oil filter to the oil filter cover.
Use only the Honda genuine oil filter or a filter of equivalent quality specified for your model. Using the wrong Honda filter or a non-Honda filter which is not of equivalent quality may cause engine damage.

8. Install the oil filter cover and tighten the oil filter bolt. Make sure the oil filter bolt is tightened securely to the specified torque.
