In a van down by the river...
He's doing OK and he/his family is safe. Apparently things got a little hairy Tuesday when the authorities moved the evacuation zone for the Casper Mt. fire to within 5 blocks of his house but even though the smoke made it look like a really heavy fog outside and there were chunks of charcoal in his backyard, everybody's doing alright. Even though the fire is only 30% contained, from what he described it's burning now in an area where therer aren't as many people/structures so it'll be easier for the FF's to work on since they don't have to make as aggressive of an attack trying to save a residence.

Things are looking better, at least from a safety perspective. The mountain looks like a mess now. The immediate danger for the city and subdivisions is gone, but that is because there is nothing left to burn on the face of the mountain. So far only a handful of structures have been lost and I believe one vehicle. There have been no injuries to the fire crews or residents in the area. Not to shabby considering to date that over 12,000 acres have burned off. They are reporting about 50% containment of the blaze as of last night.

Do anything like put some water sprinklers on your roof just for safety's sake Mike?

I get a little nervous when the smoke and ash rolls in:eek:

No, I didnt feel like we were ever that threatened Bill. There were some hellacious winds (30-50 mph)that we have put up with the last few days associated with high heat (90's) and extremely low humidities (0%) that made this fire tougher, I did have some chunks of charcoal on my patio and roof, ashes galore....... I tell ya, for the last three days I felt like I have been on an unending camping trip, smoke smell in the house, cars, clothes etc etc.... everything you touch has a layer of soot and grime on it.

Good news Mike. Sounds like the worst is over. Saw the fire on the news last night..thought about you'n yours. Glad no body was hurt and no major losses.

If you havent been thru this stuff before... yul be suprized how fast Mother Nature can bring things back to the way they were.

Hang in.

Sucks that you have to look at all that burned ground for the next 6-8 months..................glad you came through it ok.

The bright side is that next spring things will green up real nicely, more so than before the burn.

Ahh, remember I used to work right across highway 99 from the Stockton Airport, the slurry bombers would take off and land over our heads all day back in the mid 90's. I clearly remember the fires and thier effects in the Central Sierra's/Foothills area.
