I would highly recommend the 97 explorer, we have one, and my wife would fight before loosing hers. We have the 4x4 with posi differential and it works great in the snow along with the toyo wild country tires. While in Medford Oregon, we were in a snow storm, and while everyone was chaining up, we just went on by, great traction.

I absolutely recommend the 1987 Chevy 3/4T 4X4...and they're cheap with a new engine and trans...only $3500! That includes fresh oil & filter w/ 0 miles (I haven't moved it since I changed the oil...guess I prefer the PSD CC instead!):roflmao :roflmao :roflmao

i was lookin for somethin under a 1000, my uncle has an older Cherokee i am gunna look into.

Good tires and weight, lots of it. I have about 800 pounds in the bed of my truck and have had zero problems so far this year (knock on wood). This is in mid-Michigan, about 8 inches of snow on the ground right now. Tires are Mastercraft Courser C/T and were new in June. Last year, with Firestone Steeltex, forget it. I went nowhere in the snow.

I should also point out that most of the vehicles that I see off the side of the road in the snow are Jeeps. I don't know if they are just that bad in the snow or if the people who drive them are just stupid (feel invincible, "I have 4x4 now get out of my way!").

OK.... here's a good snow vehicle... it has two inches of clearance. Should work fine in the snow up to 1/4 inch. With V8 and full subframe, clearance is about two inches. Just add another $14,000 to your $1,000 and it's yours.
