Is this the carrier bearing?

I started noticing a slight roaring noise at 75 mph while in cruise control after cresting a hill when the truck lets of the throttle. A couple of months now and it is alot louder roar at 70 mph. If I let of and set it at 68-69 mph it doesnt roar. Is this the carrier bearing needing to be replaced or somthing else? Im leaving Raleigh,NC for St Louis, MO in 7 days! Thanks for any help you guys can give!!

If it is changing with the loading of the powertrain, U-joints or even a pinion bearing are the most likely causes. I'd be looking at U-joints first.

A carrier bearing sound shouldn't change with powertrain loading but with rotational speed/rpm.

If you have never replaced either, and one is going bad, it's best to do them all, U-joints & carrier bearing so you only have to drop the drive shaft(s) one time.

I did find a little leak where the drive shaft enters the rear end when I changed the rear diff fluid the other day. Any idea how much this will cost to replace the carrier and pinion? Thanks

it's a pinion seal ,, call your local ford dealer and ask what they charge ,, then you can shop around after you know the worst $ case scenario With those miles I would just get the u joints and carrier swapped out
