heys guys,

i got some cash from an insurance claim on my truck and need some ideas on how to spend it. im thinking of an intercooler. what do you guys recommend? i know alot of folks replace the 7.3 intercooler with the 6.0 intercooler right?
should i go this route or is there a better option for around the same price?

Insurance claim

Well that's a good idea cause the 6.0l intercooler is cheaper then buying an aftermarket one from banks and others. Go for it, don't forget the new boots and clamps....

I had the cance to get a 6.0 I/C but ended up passing on it. Unless you do a lot of towing (and it being a pretty heavy load)....youre not going to see any difference in performance. EGT's might be slightly lower when towing, but driving stock...you probably will never notice a differnce.

My vote is for you to upgrade to a 6.0 Transmission cooler. The stock cooler on our 7.3's leaves much to be desired and with you putting more power into your transmission...youre gonna wanna make sure it stays cool becuase it doesnt take much to heat it up.

Shop around on Ebay for one...I recently upgraded and have been extremely pleased with the results.

great point and thanks for the suggestion!:sweet

i dont do hardly any towing and i have never had a problem with high egt's. i average about 650 on the highway at 70-75 mph so i think thats pretty good.

was the tranny cooler upgrade difficult? and how much did it set you back?

I picked up mine at cost from a buddy i know at a ford dealership for 250, but they retail clost to 400. My sugguestion would be to check out ebay and craigslist.

You will also need some good quality transmission oil hose and various fittings. Its not terribly hard to do, just can be time consuming. It really helps to get the A/C condensor out of the way too if you can. I had a friend who had the recovery system so we did it.

Good luck!

Dont waste your time on the 6.0 IC... I saw little if any change going with a 6.0 IC.
