yes you can build your own intake
you'll need:
4" diameter 6" long 45° exhaust tube
4" constant pressure band clamp (don't get a worm clamp they don't put enough pressure)
Donaldson 46637 Filter
you can get a filter band (keep it up off the inner fender) if desired but not required.
oh and you should be able to find an intake for far cheaper, Future Home of Tymar Performance will sell you a kit that is what I described above.

I'll also vouch for the TYMAR. I built my own setup (pics in sig), but the next one I'll just purchase from Dale. No parts chasing, fitting, cutting, etc. Cheers!
