I've got most of the stuff I need to put the larger 99.5 intake covers on. I ordered all the necessary stuff including sealant part #F7AZ-19554-EA. When I put that part number in, it changed over to a different part number TA-30. I figured OK, so the F7AZ-19554-EA got superceded by another item. I wasn't too concerned about it.

Well, I get all my goodies and I'm looking at the tube of sealant and it says "Recommended for all engine RTV gasketing applications (except 7.3 L Power Stroke Diesel).-mad

So what sealant AM I SUPPOSED TO USE???????
I've heard Yamabond #4 and some IH "gray stuff":dunno

I have both a Yamaha dealer and a IH parts dealer nearby.

Please enlighten me.

Update:

After doing a bit of research on this matter, I have come up with the following info.

The Ford spec/ part number for this sealant is TA31, an RTV grey sealant. It used to go by Ford part number F5TZ19G204AB. TA31 is an "alkoxy core" RTV that is non-corrosive, hightemp and quick curing. It has a MSDS number of 139293. The IH part number is 1830856C1 (the grey stuff). Both come in a "half length" calking gun type tubes.

I didn't have much luck in finding either in the local area, but a Ford dealer about 75 miles away did have some TA 31 on hand. I called them and was told that he could ship me some, but because it's a "chemical", shipping would be rather pricey. He suggested just getting some grey RTV sealant from the local parts store. The parts dude then explained that before Ford came out with their own line of sealants, the service department used just common grey automotive RTV sealant. Not blue, black, orange or brown, it had to be the grey stuff.

If anybody has anything else to add, feel free to chime in.
