What would be possible causes for the CCV fumes to increase by volume/density? The 7.3L has 61k miles at almost 6 years old.

The most obvious one that jumps at me is increased blowby. Have you had a blackstone report recently?

Also, is it possible that you had a blockage in your CCV vent hose that came loose? Maybe it didn't increase so much as it can get out now??? If you've done any work to it recently, this could be the reason. I guess I'm assuming that you ahve a daylighted CCV mod on your truck to notice the increase.

I'd have to say the increase of fumes have been a gradual one,no mods been done, nothing really changed except for the fuel pressure which was in the 68-72 psi range.

I have an Oil sample ready to go to Blackstone.

I didn't mention this but the CCV vents open under the truck but now I'm considering having a bung welded to the exhaust pipe but have been told by an unreliable source that you can't cut or weld to stainless?

Not quite--I'm no welder, but IIRC you can get away with using a MIG welder but for the best results with welding stainless you have to use a TIG welder. There is A LOT more to it than that (what kind of wire/rod to use, what shielding gas or mix of gases, etc...) but welding stainless is most definitely possible, just more complex than welding mild steel.

I'm told you can weld stainless with a MIG, but it will rust unless you you use stainless wire and then you would need the proper Tri-mix gas. My exhaust tip was tacked on with a MIG with mild steel wire. No rust yet.

Thanks for the feedback John & Kevin! I may swing by Pronto muffler Saturday morning to see what they can do,perhaps some high temp paint could help protect the weld from the elements long as I stay away from salty roads this winter:D

welding stainless is everyday thing. whoever told you cant e done that is selling manure.

best way is TIG'g it, using straight argon gas. just like steel. i LIKE welding stainless, i HATE welding aluminum. if no TIG, then braze it with a oxy torch.

cutting it- that is going to be tough. stainless is tough stuff. you CAN drill it with twist drill, but its going to take you a while. you could use a hole saw, but you will probably use a couple. carefull work with a cuttoff wheel in a grinder or even a dremel will work too. that will take longest.

if you can not find a stainless bung, you could use a brass one and braze it with a torch.

if you weld it, then you MUST clean off the pretty iridescent blue colors on the welds. it is oxidation and will rust the stainless out.

remember is stainless, not RUSTPROOF.

if you want a nice job by another SDD'r, drive on up and i will do it for you here ;)
