I have worked with a SawStop saw and they work just like you saw in the video. We trashed a blade and cartridge in the first week. No damage to anyone, but the saw. GOOD TOOL!!

I'm not sold on it yet. I will be in the market for an upgrade this summer. I like the idea but I don't like that it ruins the blade when it trips off. They want a pretty penny for them as well. The contractor saw is as much as some good cabinet saws.

I have seen that tool before. I think I even saw the episode. That is an awsome idea that he came up with. $60 for a blade is worth a finger. I know I almost lost my middle one in the Coast Guard. Still doesn't work and still has no feeling.

The cartridge is what costs the big bucks. The blade is a standard 10' table saw blade. You can yell "too much $$$" all you want, but if your finger is the one finger that is saved by this system, it is worth the extra dollars. (RANT) I get tired of people yelling "too much money for..." every time a new system comes along to save your hands and fingers .(/RANT)

I would most certainly give $60 for a finger but, I think the initial cost of the saw itself is hard to choke down. Most people who pay that much are woodworking on a weekly/daily basis and have a respect and understanding of the tools that are used. The occasional DIY'er who may not be as familiar with the table saw is the one who needs the added protection that this saw provides. We will have to give it a couple years for another manufacturer to bring this same technology to the market so that the price comes down. $1600 is a pretty good chuck of change for contractor saw.

my dad almost lost one of his fingers on a table saw over the summer.he got the tip of it but the hospital was able to save it.but it would be worth the 60 bux to me to save his fingers when he is doing woodwork.its worth the 60 bux even if you had it for 30 years and it never had to save your fingers.

+1 the normal home owner aint gonna spend that much on a saw to do occasional work.but people like me and my dad would cuz we know what can happen with the tools we use even if we are cautios as hell accidents still do happen.hell i sliced my thumb with a razor blade cutting a hose.i cut it so deep i saw a hole deep in the slice.now the whole side of my thumb is numb,touch it and it just feels tingly.the other thumb i almost cut off with a buffer that had a grinding wheel on it.i can only bend it at the joint at my palm.kinda sux at times but oh well it was my own stupidity on this one .
