I must be the worst searcher in all history but I can find nothing that talks about what to do if we in our 94-97's run out of fuel. I read the 99+ a long time ago and was lucky enough to remember that and go help my buddy tonight who ran out but what about us. If I understand it we do not have the extra electric pump. So what are we to do if we run out of fuel. I figure I would open the fuel filter bowl and fill it with fuel and then leave it cracked to let the air pressure out while cranking. But is that all we can really do if on the side of the road. I wish it had a primer pump like my mercedes.

Also do people put a extra pump on there just to help out the stock lift pump and just in case? The FS500 and similar pumps I guess would meet that need.

Just thought I would start it for the files just in case someone gets in that predicement as I could not find it in the threads.

Just keep cranking, it will start and run rough until the air is purged out. Its hard on injectors so it's NOT a recommended practice to run her dry.

Best practice would be to pull the relay for the IDM so it won't fire, crank it over until you think you've filled the system, then crank a little more, then start. That will prevent "dry firing" your injectors, as for the pump question, no a "helper" isn't needed, would only make heat in the system unless you converted the system over to a fully electric system.

Rick (action4478) suggested to remove the schrader valve completely then crank it until fuel squirts out then shut it off and thread it back in.

I've done it with two people. One cranks while the other presses in the schrader valve.
