The "Hutch" mod is named for the guy originally credited for developing it. "HutchinAugusta" is his forum handle on many diesel forums. He isn't seen or heard from much lately. There was some ill feelings between him and the vendors that started putting out in kit form, the solution that he came up with. He felt that folks were profitting from the work he did and he didn't recieve anything in return.

What Hutch discovered was the problem the 7.3 fuel system had with sucking air leaks in the fuel intake inside the tank and the quick connect fuel line fittings above the tank. The air getting into the fuel caused a loud, rough running engine, poor mileage and performance. His mod involved modifiing the fuel intake assembly inside the fuel tank and eliminating the quick connect style fitting in the fuel line between the tank and the fuel pump.

One vendor has a kit available HERE. I'm not saying their kit is any better than others, but you can download the install instructions which will give you a real good visual idea as to what is involved in the "Hutch" mod.

what does it do
Like has already been said, it eliminates air in the fuel. I did mine before the kits came out and it is an easy fix and it works. I have the pre pump mod.
