Recently the engine has started producing a groaning noise from which I've been able to center on the HPOP. The oil temp sender on top of the HPOP reservoir would that be going bad causing the timing to go off kilter or is the HPOP itself going south?

I checked the oil level in the reservoir and it's up to par.

Changed idler pulley which had play in it with a new piece, still groaning.-popcorn

I do the power steering pump Sunday morning.

I'm ordering a new fan clutch since the stocker has enough play in it to warrant replacement.

Seems like a mini overhaul!:D

CHP - any progress? My PS pump whines but doesn't groan. What is happening when groaning commences? If continuous noise, I'd look hard at water pump...bad bearing??

Well I installed a power steering pump, installed new idler pulley, installed new serpentine belt, changed the transmission fluid, installed new trans filter, installed new CPS(benefit of the doubt).

The groaning sound/vibration is most noticeable when at idle rpms including when in gear(park, neutral and drive).

The groaning/vibration increases as rpms do till the truck does 25+mph or when the torque converter is locked. If it's the TC I really can't make it up to Lead Hill for a few weeks and I have to check with Brian's schedule first.

I'm leaning to the torque converter or HPOP but has the 7.3L HPOP shown signs of going south by vibration/groaning early on? When sitting in the cab it seems like the engine is a DT466 that's the kind of vibration that is produced:dunno

Our 7.3L only has 66k miles on it.

I'm hoping that big oil Rooster may check in also.
