What I have is the front fitting O-ring on the '02 7.3L HPOP that feeds to the pass side cylinder head is leaking but not too bad,now the questions are,can I use any O-ring that fits the boss end of the fitting or is a special one the Ford recommends and where can I find one like today?

To release the hose from the front most fitting you have to use a horseshoe type tool but the fuel line going into the fuel filter is in the way,now to clear the way to access the front fitting I have to remove that line from the side of the filter will I need to replace the O-ring/bushings on it as we sometimes have to do when pulling the fuel line from the FPR cap?

I'll try and post up photos of the fitting in question when we reach Phoenix before 1PM.I may give Dennis' at ITP a shout for O-ring replacement options/solutions since he's the guru in these lands out this way.

The beginning of my weekend!-popcorn

i think it is a viton O ring.but if you have a hydraulic or a truck shop near you they will have the oring you need.they are only about .30 cents at the ford dealer if they have them.

i havent dealt with many 99-ups yet so i dont have any info on the fuel line O ring.but it would be a good idea to replace it while you have it apart.but you could probably get away without replaceing it as long as the O ring is still soft and not cracked or hardened.

but now if you lived near me instead of living in texas i could help you out.i have plenty of the orings for the HPOP fittings and know right where to go to get them.i could mail one to you but you will most likely have one before it got to you.but if not let me know and ill send one right out.

Thanks for the comeback there Rich,I did make it to Phoenix this morning and did some subsequent shopping at a CAT dealer and picked up a vibraloc seal kit from Ford in case when I remove the fuel sending line from the fuel/water separator unit to get the spring lock release tool on without obstruction.

The sales guy at CAT laughed when I told him that Ford parts wouldn't sell me just the O-ring but the whole spring lock fitting that has the O-ring they will do :roflmao

Both HPOP O-rings started leaking at the same time one worse than the other but we were able to get into MHC Kenworth in El Paso Texas to get worst of the two replaced.

I'll be wrenching on the HPOP lines early saturday morning,I'll have to get some photos while at it:sweet

The O-rings I purchased at Caterpillar turned out to be an exact fit for the HPOP quick release fittings. I reduced what could have been $140 for the overpriced Ford parts down to $2 for both O-rings :nutkick: :thumbs

Anyone here in DFW that gets the unexpected leaky HPOP O-ring/s on the 7.3L's I have it down to a 5 minute R&R if you need help :sweet

Did you have any part numbers for those cat o rings? might just buy some and put them on the shelf for the future.

CHPMustang gave this to me a few days ago.

Caterpillar Part # 3J-1907

This part # is for the o-rings that mate to the HPOP. The ones at the rear of the motor are different. I had to order them from a website. When I get the size, I will post it.

Just need the hydraulic line quick release tool,3/4" socket and a couple of extensions.

Handy to have a can of brake cleaner to douche out the quick release fitting/s while it's out,I had to replace both fitting O-rings.

Most of the oil that was in the valley drained off and dried up.
