I am fairly confident that my consistant oil leak is coming from my hpop lines. I assume that I need new o-rings. I need some info before I dive in.

Where do I purchase the o-rings? Part # ?

Are there any special tools required?

Has anyone done a "how-to" on the o-ring replacement? If not, does anyone have a rudimentary step-by-step on how to do this?

I am a competant mechanic but have not done any work on my hpop before.

Thanks everyone.

DO NOT go buy them from Ford. cost ya like $36. I got 25 from McMaster Carr for about $9. Let me go check on the numbers.

Well I lied. It was $2.74 for 25 of them. McMaster Carr # is 9752k116. Viton O rings. The HPOP fill plug o-ring is # 8297t122. THOSE were $9........for 100 of them! And the locktite that comes with the Ford part needs no explanation.

Hpop leak, lines?

Hey man, before you replace anything get that powerstroke nice and clean, leave it running and pressure wash the intake valley and surrounding area. Ford did put out a service bulletin for the o-rings on the hpop fittings that connect to the lines and there is also a ferry plug on the right lower side of the pump, if that's the leak then do yourself a favor and don't try to repair it, change the pump, those plugs are nothing but problems!!! If you find the leak and need some help just send me a pm and i'll walk you through it. No special tools needed either the lines have quick disconnects that if you know how they work they'll come apart in 2 seconds with two pairs if pliars (long). Good luck and keep trucking.

I found the leak! It is coming from the top line. Does that mean I need to order # 9752K116?

As far as Loctite goes, what color/type do I need? I really dont have a lot of experience with Loctite.

It's Locktite 680 and those are the right rings.

And here's a page you should bookmark. Powerstroke O-Ring Chart

Incase you need anymore. No need to go around getting raped on lil orings or replacing parts you can fix yourself.

HPOP O ring change A real crude how-to. I'm sure there are others.

I cleaned everything up and the oil is not coming from either of the lines. I thought the forward line was leaking, but I cleaned it and it has remained clean after about 100 miles. The valley has once again started to fill up with oil.

I have a horrible feeling that the leak is coming from the gasket. How common is this and how hard is it to replace?

The engine was a little too warm for me to really be feeling around the HPOP but I hope its not the ferry plug leaking.

Chasing leaks is amlost as bad as chasing electrical gremlins!! :dizzy

Hpop leak?

Hey man sorry to hear that you can't find it. Try using a mirror on a flexable pole first. If it ends up being the gasket that sits in between the pump and the resovior its only time consuming not brain surgery. The ferry plug you should be able notice. The pump took me about three hours to pull and change on my buddies wrecker f450. The biggest thing is not dropping the bolt down the front cover! Holy %$#+ that would be bad. Other than that its simple. Gasket is probably cheap too. Good luck.
