this is my wifes 10 year old daughters homework.

wich 2 points would be both on the line of symmetry for the shaded figure shown on the grid?

i say its Y and Z but the wife says W and X

W-X is the right answer. If you picture the figure as being a sheet of paper that you fold along the line of symmetry, when you actually fold it, both corners and edges must line up exactly for that line to be a line of symmetry. If you "fold" the figure along M-R or Y-Z, there might be an edge or a corner that lines up, but not ALL edges and ALL corners. If, however, you "fold" the figure along W-X, both corners and edges will line up and so W-X is the only line of symmetry for that figure.
