I have an 01 F350 7.3, I took it in to have the cam sensor recall fixed, when I did the mechanic said that my high pressure oil pump was leaking. I looked in the valley where he told me to pay attention to, and there was a little oil in that area. I cleaned the area up, and am not really able to tell where it is coming from. There is no oil on the ground, so I never would have known unless he told me. The truck runs fine, and I haven't noticed it doing any thing strange. Does anyone have any more info on this? I all ready replaced the transmission (auto), now this, I am getting kind of frustrated, what else is going to go wrong!!!

It's possibly one of the HPOP fittings or HPOP reservoir seal but not positive. If you have the mechanical ability and tools I'd pull the fuel filter bowl and see where it's sivving from.

I believe there's a dye pack available to add to the oil then use a black light or similar to trace the leak back to.

Both my HPOP fitting O-rings failed simultaneously in July 2006 down on I-10 outside El Paso in 100+ degree heat, they didn't leak they really flowed oil:eek:

(Kudos to Big K for the help over the phone!)

WHY WAS HE LOOKING UNDER THE HOOD TO DO THE CPS RECALL?

you said no oil was hitting the ground right? inspect the best you can, look for an obvious leak. the best way to find a leak for me is to powerwash the area really well, and run the engine while watching. for slower leaks ill go down the road for 5 miles or longer if needed.

on the heavy stuff i work on, the companies wont warranty anything unless its hitting the ground. on my truck i dont want to let it get that far, but if the engine has never had a bath it will look like its leaking from everywhere, a big nasty mess. i would say wash it down and see what you have.

Hello Hunter:
Sounds like HPOP o rings. Mine started leaking, as did many other peoples, I bought my o ring kit on ebay (cheap), & removed the old o ring & replaced with a new o ring and the leaks gone. Not a big deal. Good luck.
