Hi to all!!! must say AWSOME site:hail

if everything goes well i should be getting a 01PSD CC/SB. from a friend that is going to upgrade. & give me a $ i cant refuse.....+ he knows ill take care of it which he has done himself.

main question i have- i hear wastegate flutter, but also some other not good noises coming from the intake. ive read tha turbo surge/bark is not uncommon for the moddied PSD & the Dmaxes. i know its not good either. so looking into stopping/reducing it & at the same time upgrading power, adding all these things up, it seems im better off just getting a upgraded snail?

it has intake,exhaust,100hp diablo tuner, intake heater fix, map-twin blowoff fix. i have to add-- these 'other' noises i dont remember hearing till the 100 tune was done.

its got about a 100k on it. oil in the intercooler a problem, or going to be? i know he has never cleaned it out or drained it.

so some thoughts, ideas, questions would be great. & thanks ahead of time.

Turbo surge can be fixed by either a housing like ATS, or banks a turbo wheel, or upgrading the turbo itsself. for the money the wheels the cheapest like a wicked wheel but the better would be the housing with the wheel, but houseing with out the wheel will work. the housing and wheel will also help you spool up quicker. and obviously upgrading turbo would be the best.
as far as your IC goes i have 160k on my truck and havent cleaned it yet but i did just get a 6.0 IC that im gonna put in. if you do go clean the ic i would suggest doing the Crank Case Vent mod so you never have to clean it again or clean your motor as much.
just my :2c

thanks guys for the info.
oi8228oi-
i plan on doing the ccv mod no matter what i do to the IC.
i was thinking of doing both inlet & exhaust housing & wheel at at the same time. thats were i was thinking all that money kinda adds up to a new turbo....

so i know the diesel engines dont have a throttle plate to really cause problems but wouldnt a BOV or recic. valve(for maf trucks) take care of all this? & way isnt there one?

If you are consistently getting boost high enough to defuel then you need different programs or chip. Proper tuning by someone like Tony Wildman or Jody Tipton will cure this. Run too high a boost for too long and you WILL toast that turbo.

BOV or Dawes device creates a leak in the system. This is a ricer's fallacy turned into marketing hype. Instead of a BOV, look at our sponsor's pages for a boost line regulator. I think ITP makes them. controled pressure release.

oil in the intercoller: poke about with the search function to see what others have experienced.

thanks for the greetings.

dp----im not getting ricey.... just thinking of something to relieve pressure. so the turbo doesnt stall or surge. it seems to be a common problem with all trucks. no specifics.

DB-
pardon my rude manners- WELCOME!

using a valve on the pressure side to eliminate surge- i am not sure i understand what you are talking about. post up an example. maybe you know something we dont. i have not seen anything that can vent the pressure and respond to the speed at which it changes.

the place mose often people put the valve is on the MAP sensor tube so pressures over ~24 psi don;t trigger the computer to defuel.

blow of valve is a leak. a fluid under pressure will always seek the path of least resistance, ie out of the piping. by using a pressure regulator, it will allow the sensor to still read pressure and bleed off the excess. this is want i am refering too.

there is a balance with power vs. durability. do some more poking about, maybe call jody at dp-tuner or to tony wildman and talk boost to see what kind of numbers he pushers and compare.

better yet poke the brains of the racing and pulling guys like tubzz or luke- they push out real sick HP numbers on their trucks.

yes all these ideas are to allow u to have & keep boost over what the PCM would like.

im still working on the fancy link stuff but what i was getting to is what BDPower makes. its a BOV, but is $650ish. i myself was thinking of something way more cost effiective & still get the job done.
