:burnit This is me... lol

I have owned a 1999 F350 7.3ltr Crew Cab Long Bed 4X4 Auto Tranny for 8 days now. She has a 6" lift with 37" tires and 132K miles on the truck and 80K miles on the motor (documented).

The last dealer pulled the check engine light and the motor quit before my dealer sold it. So, I got a refurbished (used diesel motor) installed. My final price was $18K, so I feel pretty good.

Does anyone have any tips for me and my pick up? I mean what is the key to preserving a diesel engine? I have never owned a diesel, but am very good to my vehicles...

Thanks everyone in advance for the warm welcome and vast amount of knowledge:sweet

The dealership I purchased this truck from gave me the paperwork indicating the engine swap... Now the oil they put in the engine is Rotella 15W40 and they claimed that Rotella was the best oil too.

Another thing is, how are you all changing your oil? Does everyone take it somewhere, or does everyone have like 30 quart buckets? LMAO, I found out tonight from Checkers that with an oil filter change, my truck takes 15 quarts - holy crap

I cut about a foot off the bottom of a 55 gallon drum, it makes a great drain pan.

Rotella is fine oil, if the truck behaves well with it in there, stick with it. As for changing the oil, I find that a 5 gallon bucket slides very nicely under the pan and will hold all the oil.

I use a 5 gallon container and it just slides under the truck without any trouble.

Rotella is good oil. I am using Rotella T the snythetic oil and I still change it every 5000 miles.

Thanks fellas... In my last truck (a bad-ass [idea that didn't work out in my favor] 2005 Ram w/NOVI 1200 S/C - - - P.O.S.) I ran 5W30 Mobile 1 Fully synthetic and changed it every 5,000 miles as well.

Dave,

Is that Rotella T the whole label, or is it like Rotella 15W40 T.... ? I'm just asking because I believe I am going to switch to full synthetic - I believe the stories and if my PSD will last me 400K, then I will help it in the ways I can.
