Does not happen often, maybe 3-4x in the trucks 26k miles. Display goes out on the ac/heating/fan controls. No amount of mashing buttons can make it come back to life. Does not work until after turning vechicle off to power cycle. Have not taken to dealer, as I figure they won't do anything if it is not broken at the time. Has anyone else encountered this?

That is a good one, and a new one. I have no idea. I have never heard of the AC/heater/fan controls going out temporarily. The common thread in all of this is CLIMATE CONTROLS. You say that recycling the key brings them back on. Try wiggling the key a little, back and forth next time it happens. I am thinking the ignition switch, but...

The Excursions with the EATC system does the same thing, shuts off without notice or doesn't even turn on at times. I read where an owner turns his headlights on and off like 3 times then the air turns on magically. Ford hasn't been able to figure it out either but I've read it occurs more frequently during the warmer summer months.:rant

Thanks. I believe you are right about happening primarily in summer months. Has not happened for a good while now. Next time it happens I'll have to bring it in and see if any codes have registered.

I'd be looking for a common point between the key (ignition switch as Dave suggested) and the climate control head..

My 05 did this once, I called my buddy that owns the local Ford dealership. He told me to pull the fuse for the auto climate controls, wait 10 seconds and put it back in. I did exactly as he said, and it's never happened again. They have no clue why they do it.

Cool. That's how we used to fix '89-'95 GM's...
