When I attended my Concealed Pistol Class about a 1 1/2 years ago, the instructor told us that since he got his CPL, he hasn't received a single ticket. He doesn't get pulled over any less, he just gets warnings. He said to make sure to show your CPL to the cop whenever you do get pulled over, regardless if you are carrying or not.
Well, about 3 hours ago, I put that statement to the test.
Mrs TG said "lets do KFC for supper." I said great, let's go!!! Wrong, this was one of those "you go get some and bring it home so I don't have to get dressed" deals.
Anyhow, I head into town to get some KFC. On the way into town, there is a spot going down a big hill where the speed limit drops from 55 to 35. I was going a rather leisurely 55 on the way into town, but wasn't real aggressive about slowing down to 35 as I went down the hill. There was a real new looking Expedition behind me. As I made a turn on the "by-pass" highway around Marquette, that Expedition that was behind me suddenly sprouted red & blue lights.
I pulled over and the cop walks up and basically says I didn't slow down enough where the speed limit drops. He had me doing 53 in a 35. I'm thinking "great, this going to cost me at least $100 if not more!!-mad
So I'm digging around the wife's car looking for the registration & insurance. Then I get out the wallet for the license. I keep my license under my CPL as a reminder. I tell the cop "I guess I'm supposed to show this to you also" as I dig out the CPL. He says "No that's alright, I don't need to see that", but he saw I had a CPL anyhow.
He goes back to his cop SUV and comes back like a minute later. I'm thinking "this has to be good news, no where near enough time to fill out a ticket form". He gives me my stuff back and tells me to "slow down for him next time I go thru that area and have a nice evening."
I tell him "thank you" and shake his hand. I won't ever know for sure if having the CPL made a difference, but that was the first time I got pulled over since I got the CPL. Hmmmm----
