Yesterday when I engaged 4wheel drive system on my 97 crew, I heard nothing but grinding metal. My first thought, 4wheel drive is going! Turns out two of the sealed U joints are shot on the 4wheel drive. I'm not sure about others, but I have never cared for the sealed Ujoints with no zirk fittings. Curious what input anyone else has or has experienced with these sealed type Ujoints.

Are you talking about the output shaft from the transfer case to the frt diff? I replaced both of those joints with greasable ones.

Two schools of thought:

1. Grease is good.
2. Sealed are stronger since they are solid, no channel for the grease to run through.

For normal use, I would go with the geasable.

Yes talking about the the output shaft from the transfer case to the frt diff. I thought the greased type were better, as I've had better luck with them. I suspect I'll replaced the others given the mileage 130,000. Thanks
