That is normal. The relay is "cycling" the glow plugs to keep them hot for a moment or two. I don't know about the shakes, but the clicking is normal.

make sure its a GPR and not a starter relay. My old GPR started clicking a lot so I thought I would clean the terminals,It didn't work out to good.I think the bacolite case was baked. The posts were loose.

FIRST OFF I've gotta say your avatar is HILARIOUS. I would check the voltage at the small wires on the GPR, one wire is 12v constant and the other is switched ground from the pcm. If the 12v is erratic check for loose connections, or broke wires, you can ground the small wire terminal yourself with a jumper wire to a good ground, preferably to battery, if the click quits it is somewhere between the pcm and the gpr. If the 12v signal is good and grounding doesn't changer anything, your new relay is junk. the big lugs on the relay could not cause this problem, it has to be in the switching or the power to coil side.

The starter relay should be located on the passengers side inner fender. If not it might be in the lifter galley near the glow plug relay. Just follow the positive leads coming off the battery and you will find it.

he meant, the gpr could have been replaced with a starter relay, they aren't constant duty and can't hold up to the stress, that is what caused his post to come out.

yes, until it got baked. but if you paid a good penny for it it should be the heavier, constant duty type of relay the gpr is. The starter relay is usually only about 20 bucks, but is lighter duty because it is only momentary and doesn't get as hot.
