my latest blackstone report (i missed the last 2 or so...the samples are
STILL on the shelf ;)....

honestly i was a bit concerned...having moved to texas nearly a year
ago <to the month> the truck hasnt seen the lengthy runs much less
the OVERALL USE...it sits ALOT anymore...so i figured if anything id
be showing signs of FUEL in the oil <from all the short trips>

--------------------------

DON: Nice improvement in lead. It was the only element out of line
last time, so we are happy to report everything appears to be doing
well mechanically at 51,300 total miles. We did find a mildly low viscosity
and a trace of fuel. Neither is a big concern. We don't worry about fuel
until it reads above 2.0%, and you can get a trace from normal idling
and city driving. The 6.0L tends to shear down oil, so the low viscosity
isn't an issue. No coolant was present. Insolubles and soot levels were
low showing good oil filtration and no combustion problems. All in all,
nice report here.

the LEAD was high in the last report...as they suspected perhaps from
towing (and they were right, i had been doing a bunch of towing).

they have found measurable amounts of fuel in earlier reports (less then 1/2 a
%) and shown it on the report...i suspect this time it was even LESS
full (trace as they say) because they dont even show a number in the
fuel % reading portion of the report.

it was the thing i EXPECTED (since i know short tripping causes wet stacking
and usually shows up as evidence of fuel in the oil)

nice to know ive not got a headgasket issue (like some have had to deal
w/)...all in all more confirmation that i have a good PROBLEM free truck !

hey bush, I am planning to do a lab report when i get home from being deployed for 6 months. Is this a good idea? Because my truck has just been sitting there, being started everyweek for 30 min. I did put a good 3K on the oil before i left though.
Thanks

not like im an authority on this...i think its just good
insurance, I dont see that sending in a sample can hurt
anything (other than your wallet)...20 buckets for a sampling
seems like cheap insurance to me.

primarily i use the oil testing to watch for leaking injectors
or coolant/antifreez in the oil...the rest just kinda confirms
the engine is holding together well.

I'll pay the extra $2.50 for the lack of association. ;)

Agreed....very cheap insurance for a truck I plan on driving for a LONG time.:sweet
