Wanted to find out if all pre-2002 7.3 had forged connecting rods or just 2001? Are the other rods cast then and I was told they were to be avoided? So are all 2002+7.3 have them in.?

It wasnt a model year specific change if I understand correctly. I think some 01's had PMR's as well.

Up to late 2000, like around October they used forged rods. So if you have an early built 2001 or earlier you have forged, otherwise they are powdered metal rods that are brittle to put it easily. Some have had mixed sets in the changeover period. There's an inspection hole on the side of the panrail of the block to make sure what you have. 2002's have PMRs.

Forged rods have pressed in rod bolts and nut gets torqued down. PMR's have a cap screw rod bolt that can be easily seen from the inspection hole, you may have to bump the starter to get it just right.
