Since I have found these forums, I have done more reading, but not enough apparently.

Two weeks ago I pulled into a hotel where my company was having a meeting that weekend. I checked in at the front desk, jumped in my truck and pulled to the rear of the building where guest parking was located. Took my suitcase and briefcase in with me, left my camera and a few other things in the rear of my seat to come back and get. Went to room, dropped off items, walked back to truck. Camera was gone. Truck was locked, nothing broken and I was confused. Went to the hotel desk, the hotel security people showed up and called the police.

When the police showed up he asked what had happenend and I explained to him about the camera being stolen, but nothing being broken. He got out, walked right to my door and showed me a tiny dent. He explained about the issue with the locks and thieves target hotels and look for trucks like mine to pull in. We then went and viewed the security video.

On the video, you could see the car pull in beside my truck, passenger step out, pop the lock, reach inside, grab camera and get back in. This took less than 6 seconds. They timed it. Got the tag, turns out the car was stolen too.

Thought I would share with folks, maybe one less person will lose something.

sounds like Ford should go back to the old push button door latch like on OBS. Too bad the police couldnt catch those dirt bags. My wife thinks Im paranoid about someone stealing from my truck. This shows Im not so off the mark...

I hope your insurance covers you.

There is nothing worse than a thief. There needs to be tougher laws about stealing. In the old days, if you stole a horse, you were hanged. Libreals, have made this country a thiefs paradise. I say bring back the rope, and you have no repeat offenders.

actually my door was cleaner. It looked like they used an ice pick and there was not scratching and a tiny little ding. You have to get up close to mine to tell.

As far as insurance.. I was hosed. :) $1000 on the homeowner deductible and the camera was $1800. Insurance company said it was not worth it as my premiums would go up.

sounds like your insurance ripped you off as much as the thieves. Dont get me started on the toilet scum that is the insurance industry. Only one around you pay to protect you and then cant get protection by threat of retaliation.

make the claim then switch companies...

I will be ordering Jimmy Jammers and installing an alarm after insurance fixed the door and replaced my stereo.:censored:

Where do you get Jimmy Jammers? I googled it without any results.

Dave,

Click here. I spelled it wrong.

My comprehensive is covering my door repairs and stereo, so I'm lucky there. But, the quote for all of it was just over $1k. I'd rather my insurance invest in making the door secure than actually repairing it. But, they don't see it the same way. I'm going to see if the repair shop will work with me on getting the jammers installed. We'll see.
